Fuseholders are essential housings, components, or casings designed to insert and hold fuses for their practical functions. These fuse holders protect and retain the fuses by holding them in place. They provide dependable protection and prevent one fuse class from another, allowing the exact fuse replacement with ease of installation. Furthermore, they are available in varied mounting types, dimensions, and colours.

Available Fuseholder Types:

Fuse holders are categorized based on their attachment or mounting type to accommodate the application and environment and include:

  • Panel Mount

They come in rectangular and cylindrical types with direct mounting onto electrical panels. The available cap types include slotted, manual, or finger grip.

  • Base Mount

These holders’ bases are typically attached to a surface fixed via screws in the base center. They are ideal for cartridge fuses.

  • PCB Mounts

These are mounted directly onto a printed circuit board (PCB). These holders are available in two primary types, i.e., open, or enclosed. The fuse clips, sockets, and fuse blocks are the open type examples, whereas the latter type includes fuse carriers inserted into holders in a variety of ways.

  • Rail Mount

These holders feature rail mount slots for the rail attachment and are mounted to DIN rails. They are distinguished based on features like current and voltage ratings, poles, and terminal types.

  • In-line

These holders are designed to provide housing within the wiring circuit’s fuse, where a wire is attached at each holder’s end, allowing an easy in-line connection. They are widely used in electrical circuits in vehicles with miniature blade fuses.

  • Bottle Fuse

These fuses are designed to accommodate cylindrical bottle fuses with a cap to accomplish a circuit.

Reasons for a Fuseholder Melting:

Some factors melt down the fuse holder, such as:

  • Poor Contact With a Fuse

When there is poor contact with a fuse, it can melt the fuse holder.

  • The Heat Generated by the Fuse and the Fuse Holder’s Resistance

The amount of current flowing in circuits results in heat generation that melts the holder. However, it may not cause abrupt melting or trigger after immediate installation.

How to Clean Fuse Holders?

Ideally, there are some ways to clean the fuseholder. Some of them are:

  • Using a toothbrush/Cloth

It is a convenient method of holder cleaning. Use a dry cloth or toothbrush to clean the springs of the connector gently.

  • Using Emery Cloth

Use the emery cloth piece, ideal for cleaning the interior of the fuse holder. Wrapping the cloth around the screwdriver would help scrub a fuse holder from the inside.

  • In the last

After the cleaning of the holder, use a paintbrush (of small size) to lubricate the entire fuseholder.

Note:

  • Before cleaning a fuse holder, ensure you switch off the main power supply or live wires to avoid any injury or shock.
  • It is also recommended to wear gloves (rubber or plastic).
